Marinas

A Marina is actually a port-like facility where yachts, ships and boats can be kept and sheltered. However, unlike ports which are principally used for receiving ships containing cargo, marinas are mainly used for harboring and servicing boats used for recreational purposes.

La Paz, Baja California Sur is one of several communities that can be found bordering the Sea of Cortez. Because of its white sand beaches, swaying laurel trees, deep blue waves and its unique Coromuel winds, La Paz is visited by many tourists and vacationers everyday. Snorkeling, kayaking, water skiing, sports fishing, scuba diving, and yacht sailing are just some of the many water activities that locals and tourists take delight in. Because of the need for boats and yachts for transportation and recreation, several marinas have been constructed around the shores of La Paz.

The Marina de La Paz is probably one of the biggest and the best known marinas along the Gulf of California Sea of Cortez. From the time when the first Spanish conquistadors arrived on the shores of La Paz, the area where the future Marina de La Paz was going to be built was nothing more than a poorly constructed harbor. In 1983 however, a handful of local boat and ship owners commissioned the construction of a marina. Thus, Marina de La Paz was born.

As the years progressed, Marina de La Paz grew in capacity. When before, it could only harbor less than 30 boats, now it can accommodate more than a hundred boats and yachts. Marina de La Paz also developed with regards to the services and available facilities. Sailboat and yacht owners in La Paz can have their sails repaired, fuel tanks filled and riggings adjusted in Marina de La Paz. Boat parking and maintenance are also offered in the marina. In and around the Marina de La Paz are restaurants, internet shops, souvenir stores, clothing boutiques and many more commercial enterprises that marina customers can enjoy.

Another large marina in La Paz, Baja California Sur is the Marina Palmira. The Marina Palmira also offers full-service security and maintenance of sailboats and yachts, and everything from boat repainting to gas refueling. The Marina Palmira is very accessible from downtown La Paz, located just two and half kilometers to the North of La Paz downtown.

Aside from these two large marinas, there are several smaller marinas that can be found in La Paz. The Costa Baja Marina, Marina Don Jose, Marina San Carlos, Mazatlan Marine Center, Marina Coral and Cabo Isle Marina are just some of the marinas that yacht and sailboat owners can seek services from.
