Overview of La Paz, Mexico

There are several places on earth that have been named La Paz. A La Paz, Indiana exists in the United States of America. There is also a couple of places that go by the name La Paz in the Philippines, Argentina, Bolivia, Honduras, and Mexico. La Paz, when translated to Spanish, actually means ‘Peace’, which is probably why so many places on Earth have been called as such. However, there is one distinct place called La Paz that gives justice to its name.

The city of La Paz is the state capital of Baja California Sur, Mexico. With a land area of about 7,800 sq mi, La Paz is the largest municipality in the Baja Peninsula and the fourth largest in all of Mexico. La Paz is not just a geographical significant place in Baja, it is also a very important commercial center.

Although at first glance, La Paz’s sun-baked streets and golden white shores would instantly bring to mind a resort town, but La Paz does not solely derive its principal earnings from tourism like other cities in Baja California. Silver mining, fishing and pearl farming are just some of the large and important industries in La Paz, Baja California Sur.

At the moment, the population of La Paz is almost a quarter of a million people. This number has greatly increased since the high standard of living in La Paz has attracted many people to migrate in the hopes of benefiting from the large commercial industries and the high living standards that exist in La Paz.
